In every office, secretaries are among the most indispensable employees.
In fact if you are working in a very busy office and holding a very busy position within that organization, having a secretary can be very valuable. They are the ones who organize our schedules and keep us updated on the more important tasks at hand. As much as secretaries are very important, their significance in the organization is very often overlooked. It is true indeed; no businessman can ever be truly successful without a competent secretary.
Thankfully, the importance of secretaries has already been recognized, and it was Harry F. Klemfuss who first understood the magnitude of the role played by secretaries in most organizations.

Thus Secretaries Day was soon created and it was first celebrated in 1952, first proclaimed by Charles Sawyer, who was the U.S Secretary of Commerce at that time. National Secretaries week was commemorated on June 1-7, first in 1952. Then, June 4 was established as the National Secretaries Day.
However in 1955 this celebration underwent some changes. The celebration of the National Secretaries Week was changed to the last week of April, and with Wednesday of that week as the Secretaries Day. In 1981 the occasion became known as the Professional Secretaries Week. Eventually the name of the event shifted to Administrative Professionals Week, so as to give a more appropriate classification to the tasks and responsibilities of a secretary. You can show your appreciation to your reliable employee by giving her some secretary day flowers during this commemorative event.
These helpful tips are designed to help you celebrate Secretaries Day with your trusted employee more meaningfully:
1. As stated above, you can surprise your secretary with flowers. While there are male secretaries in organizations nowadays, majority of secretaries are females. Surprising your secretary with a fresh bouquet of peach or pink roses will surely be deeply appreciated. If you don’t want to deal with all the stress, having the roses delivered will allow you to save on effort and time, without having to scrimp on your gestures of appreciation.
2. Add a card to the surprise and convey a personal message. You may choose to send the card along with the secretary day flowers or not, but what is important is that you personalize the whole package and communicate how grateful you are for your secretary’s dedication and commitment.
3. Give your secretary a lunch out treat. This is a great way for you to bond with your secretary and get him or her to open up more and be able to communicate with you more effectively.
4. A small gift can actually speak a lot. You can choose to give a handy organizer, pen, or book to your secretary to remember the occasion by. These are just examples, however. Don’t be afraid to let your creativity work. There are many ways that you can share your appreciation other than just standard gifts.
If you have a secretary who works faithfully for you, don’t forget to celebrate Secretaries Day or Administrative Professional’s Day with him or her. You can show your appreciation in more ways than one so don’t forget to be more creative!
